How often do you publish?

We publish once a year (annually).

Are you an online or print publication?

We publish our magazine online. Contributors do not receive a page on the website. The magazine is a pdf.

Do you pay your contributors?

Unfortunately we are not able to pay our contributors.

Do you charge a fee to submit?

No, it is 100% free to submit your creative work to Burgundy Balloon.

Do you accept reprints?

For our first issue only, we are willing to accept previously published work, however it is highly preferred that your submission be previously unpublished. If your piece has been published, please notify us of the original publisher and year of publication.

What is your response time for submissions?

We try our best to respond within a few days, however, we may take a few weeks to respond. The amount of time we take to review your submission does not suggest its chances of acceptance.

Do you accept simultaneous submissions?

Yes, we accept and encourage simultaneous submissions. If your work has been accepted at another publication, please email us as soon as possible to withdraw your submission.

Is there a subscription or fee to read your magazine?

No. Our magazine is free to view and can be accessed on our website.

What are you looking for in a cover letter/bio?

Writing and art is its own universal language and we enjoy seeing creative work from every nook and cranny of the globe. We ask for a bio with your submission because we like to get to know the writer or artist behind the work being submitted. Please include your country of residence. Your bio will not be included in the publication.

Can I submit work under a pseudonym or as anonymous?

Yes, we gladly accept submissions under pseudonym or as anonymous. If you would like to use a pen name, please indicate the name in the body of your submission email.

Why does art need to be scanned?

Your work deserves to be showcased with care and celebration, and if selected for publication, we want it to look the best it possibly can.

What if I don’t have a title?

If a piece selected for publication is untitled, we will reach out to you for a title. If you fail to respond, Burgundy Balloon reserves the right to title it for publication.

What is your acceptance rate?

For our first issue we accepted 25.58% of the submissions we received. However, we don’t have a goal to accept or reject a certain amount of submissions. If your work fits what we are looking for, submit it.

Do I own the rights to my work when I submit it?

Burgundy Balloon acquires First North American Serial Rights and First Electronic Rights for all work that it accepts for publication. Upon publication, all rights immediately revert back to the original owner. We ask that any future publications of work that we publish recognize Burgundy Balloon as the original publisher.
